We’re all spending our lives chasing mysteries in escape rooms, so when it comes to movies what do you think we’re going to watch?
Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
When a murder occurs on the train on which he’s traveling, celebrated detective Hercule Poirot is recruited to solve the case.
Such a great movie! So many clues, so many suspects, so many famous people in one movie. Kenneth Branagh does such a brilliant job and surely would have made Agatha Christie proud.
Six guests are anonymously invited to a strange mansion for dinner, but after their host is killed, they must cooperate with the staff to identify the murderer as the bodies pile up.
What can I say? Such a ridiculous movie in such a great way. Tim Curry leads a brilliant cast of stars you’d know by face if not by name. Twists, turns, and a variety of endings.
Knives Out (2019)
A detective investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family.
As far as ensemble murder mystery movies go, Knives Out is a modern classic. Super stylish, a great mystery, and so many great actors. I really hope we see more of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc in the future.
Bad Times at the El Royale (2018)
Early 1970s. Four strangers check in at the El Royale Hotel. The hotel is deserted, staffed by a single desk clerk. Some of the new guests’ reasons for being there are less than innocent and some are not who they appear to be.
The music alone is an excuse to love this movie, but if that’s not enough for you then just watch it. The perfect movie where everyone has a motive, backstory, and a plan. Bad Times at the El Royale contains the tensest scene in any movie I’ve ever seen. It’ll forever change the way you hear You Can’t Hurry Love.
